The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee brings unprecedented power and versatility to BC, once again delivering options as unique as you. Stepping into the 2021 Grand Cherokee you can expect a stylish and modern appearance, and easy to use entertainment options. As a midsize SUV, it dominates the field with its off-road capabilities, power, comfort, and features, and Jeep’s 2021 model may be the best one yet!

Round 1: Two historic SUVs - who delivers and who left us wanting?

2021 Nissan Pathfinder vs. 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Nissan Pathfinder made its debut in 1985 and has changed classifications over the years but has remained a major player in the group. The official reviews aren’t in because of the 2021 Nissan Pathfinder’s late 2020 release, but what we do know about it's the 3 trims (SV, SL, SV Rock Creek Edition) all offer a practical 284 horsepower, through a 3.5L V6 CVT engine, with 6000lbs. towing capacity. The Pathfinder has lost its way in 2021 with limited options as a major pain point for many.
The 2021 Grand Cherokee is the most versatile yet, which is saying something for a vehicle that has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and capable vehicles ever. The newly added "Laredo X" and "80year-anniversary edition" trims offer even more infotainment and interior features to an already dominant line-up. Jeep's 2021 Grand Cherokee showcases an unprecedented “10” unique trim options to fit any driver.

Round 2: Can Ford's Edge out Grand Cherokee's for the workhorse of midsize SUVs?
2021 Ford Edge vs. 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Ford Edge is one of the newest models to join this SUV class and has the resources of the renowned Ford motor company. The Edge is equipped with a 4cyl. turbo engine generating 250 hp, or a 2.7L V6 twin-turbo engine for 335hp. It comes with FWD or 4x4 options and offers a towing capacity of 3500lbs. The Edge also provides up to 8” of ground clearance which is slightly more than the GMC Terrain and Nissan Pathfinder.
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to over-deliver with its options, offering a wide range of performance capabilities, while continuing to dominate as an off-road-ready choice in this segment. Its base Laredo comes with a 295hp V6 engine and a 6,200lbs. towing capacity, with options including a 5.7L V8 or 6.4L V8 with more horsepower and a formidable 7,200lbs. towing capacity. The high-performance Trackhawk comes with the Hellcat supercharged 6.2L V8 generating 707hp. Even with significant street prowess and an all-around stronger and more capable vehicle it also provides 8.6” of ground clearance to make sure you get the most out of it, whether you’re on the road or creating your own path.

Round 3: Do the critics prefer a midsize SUV for "Luxury" or "Leisure"?
2021 GMC Terrian vs. 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The GMC Terrain is most known for its Denali trim as a more luxury midsize SUV choice and is one of the more fuel-efficient, but it falls short according to the top reviewers. Car and Driver ranked it at a 7/10 quoting it as, “The GMC Terrain is priced like a winner but ultimately proves to be not good enough for a podium finish.” CarIndigo gave it a humbling 6.3/10, while Motor Trend gave it a more optimistic 7.3/10. “We appreciate the Terrain's unique styling, but not enough helps the GMC stand out in this segment. There’s not enough cargo space, the AWD system requires manual activation, and some might find the PRNDL controls confusing.”

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to soldier on with its ability to outperform its competition on and off the road. Car and Driver ranked it at a formidable 8/10 stating, “Of Jeep's many SUV offerings, none so effortlessly blends the brand's off-road ethos with refined road manners like the Grand Cherokee.” CarIndigo and Motor Trends agreed with a close 7.6/10 rating. Motor Trends wrote, “The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee blends rugged off-roading abilities with a sumptuous, high-class cabin... You should consider a Jeep Grand Cherokee if you plan to hit the off-road trails or want the brag-worthy performance of the SRT or Trackhawk editions.”
