The engine in the Hornet’s GT trim level is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 268 horsepower and is mated to a nine-speed automated transmission along with an all-wheel drive. In 6.5 seconds, according to Dodge, this power-plant can propel the vehicle to 60 mph. The R/T is the first plug-in hybrid from Dodge and is propelled by a four-cylinder 1.3-liter turbocharged motor, coupled with an electric one, producing a total of 288 horsepower.
In place of the GT’s nine-speed automatic transmission, the R/T has a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive as standard equipment. Simultaneously pulling the two paddle shifters activates a function called PowerShot, which briefly increases power output by 25 horsepower. With the Highest setting, Dodge claims the R/T PHEV can reach the 60 mph-mark in just over 6 seconds. According to EPA ratings, the Hornet GT gets 21 city and 29 highway mpg. Even though the government has not made a decision on plug-in hybrid R/T models, we anticipate that it will be more fuel efficient than its predecessor.
